Finding licensed occupations by state

When you consider hiring a home health aide, domestic help, a roofer, or even a handyman to help your aging parent, you will want to know if that occupation is licensed and regulated in your state.

Check www.careerinfonet.org/acinet/licensedoccupations/lios_state.asp

On the first page, select your state.  For a home health aide, click "Healthcare Support," then check the box for "Nursing Aide, Orderlies, and Attendants."  Click Next at the bottom of the page.

If there is an agency named on the results page, the occupation is either licensed or requires certification of some kind.  Most state agencies have web sites and it's easy to locate their web site for more information.  Cut and paste the agency name into a search engine.  (See below if you need instructions on cut and paste.)

The Search Results page should list the agency near the top of the page.  Just click on the entry.  The website will normally have an email address and phone numbers if you need more information.

Instructions for those not familiar with computers:  Select the name of the agency by highlighting it with your mouse.  Press Control + C on your keyboard to copy the text.  Open a search engine, like Google, and put your cursor in the search box.  Press Control +V to paste the agency name in the box, then type a comma, space, and the two letter abbreviation of your state.  Press Enter.
